Nene Park

... was originally built in 1969, as the home of Irthlingborough Diamonds. Following the club's merger with Rushden Town in 1992, to form Rushden & Diamonds, the stadium was completely rebuilt. Over the next nine years Rushden & Diamonds progressed from the Southern League Midland Division (level 7 in the 'pyramid') to the Football League. In 2003 they finished as champions of the Third Division (the fourth tier), but they lasted only one season in the Second and were relegated in 2004.

In 2005, founder Max Griggs withdrew his financial support. After two years of struggle in the fourth tier, the club was relegated from the Football League in 2006.

(The BBC later reported that the club was "half way up the third tier" when Max Griggs "pulled out in 2005". In fact, the club was in the fourth tier throughout 2005.)

In the summer of 2011 they were expelled from the Conference National because their financial position meant they could not guarantee being able to complete all their fixtures in the 2011–12 season. HMRC then lodged a winding-up petition, and the club effectively went out of business on 7 July 2011, when it entered administration.

Nene Park provided a home for Kettering Town in the 2011–12 season. Kettering played in the Conference National division in this season, but they finished bottom after entering administration. They could not afford the long–term upkeep of Nene Park, and were forced to move to Steel Park in Corby.

In 2014 (as reported in the previously–mentioned BBC piece), developers Rose Property Consultants announced plans to demolish Nene Park (which had already lain empty and unused for two years) to make way for a leisure park, consisting of a multi–use football facility along with entertainment and retail zones. Nene Park was finally demolished in 2017, and the following year Rushton Diamonds began playing in Macclesfield Quiz League.
